Cloud increasing later in the day from Taranaki and Taupo northwards, especially from Northland to Coromandel with a few light showers there.
• Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and WairarapaCloudy areas, with isolated showers along the coast at first, but becoming fine by afternoon.
• For all the South IslandFine in most places with frosts this morning, severe inland. However, fog patches again for some inland valleys and basins, and cloud increasing later in the west from Nelson to Fiordland with late drizzle for South Westland.
• Chatham IslandsOften cloudy.

• FridayNorth Island, rain spreading to most places, sometimes heavy in Taranaki, but remaining dry in the east. South Island, rain developing in the west, with some heavy falls about Nelson, and a few falls reaching the east coast. Northerlies strengthening, and rising to gale in Taranaki, and from Wairarapa to Canterbury.
• SaturdayNorth Island, periods of rain but only scattered falls near the east coast. South Island, rain in the west, fine or becoming fine in the east. Strong or gale northerlies gradually turning lighter westerly from the south.
• SundayNorth Island, showers in the north and west, clearing and becoming mainly fine everywhere. South Island, showers in the west and south, mainly fine elsewhere.
• Chatham IslandsCloudy periods developing on Friday, and northerly winds strengthening. On Saturday, rain developing, and northerlies rising to gale for a time. Winds tending westerly and easing on Sunday, and rain clearing to occasional showers.
